Puerto Rico BBQ Safari DAY 1: We Hit the Famous PORK HIGHWAY!

Day 1 of our Puerto Rico BBQ Safari is officially underway! The Wise Guys packed up the entire BBQ family and headed to Puerto Rico on the hunt for the best barbecue and authentic island food we could find. Our Puerto Rico BBQ food tour begins on La Ruta del Lechón, the island’s legendary Pork Highway. At El Mojito, we dig into whole-roasted lechón, crispy pork skin that tastes like candy, morcilla blood sausage, yuca, arroz con gandules, fried plantains, and plenty of coconut mojitos. Tommy “The Butcher,” Tony “2 Smokes,” Charlie, Vin, Johnny Z, and the rest of the crew are all along for the adventure. Tommy even tries morcilla and yuca for the first time! After the feast, we stop at Casita for blueberry mojitos, piña coladas, live music, and rainforest views. This first meal set the bar high, but will it remain the best BBQ we find in Puerto Rico?
