Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA): How It Develops (2 of 5)
Physicians and surgeons from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia explain how a heart with a normal circulation works as compared to a heart with transposition of the great arteries (TGA). Because the pulmonary arteries and the aorta are switched in a heart with TGA, the blue blood continues to be ejected back to the body and the oxygenated blood gets ejected back to the lungs, a situation that can be fatal to newborns with TGA.
