Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA): After Surgery (5 of 5)

Physicians and surgeons from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia discuss complications and outcomes of TGA repair. The most common complications include leakage in the new aortic valve, narrowing of the pulmonary artery, and in some adolescents with transposition of the great arteries, a narrowing of the coronary arteries. The Cardiac Center at CHOP monitors children with TGA closely, and older kids are followed by the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center. For the less complicated types of TGA, outcomes are excellent and children will grow up to lead normal lives.
