Alejandro De Tomaso was undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in the automotive sector between the late 1960s and the early 1990s, managing, in addition to his own company, Maserati, Innocenti, Ghia, Vignale, Moto Guzzi and Benelli. From an entrepreneurial point of view, his style can be summed up in an extraordinary “One man show”. Sudden decisions, twists and surprises characterised his career, the result of an incredibly strong personality and a propensity for choices based on intuition rather than planning. Without a doubt, he is responsible for extraordinary cars, such as the Mangusta, Pantera, Biturbo, Quattroporte and Minitre. Unfortunately, this exuberance was often also his limit, sometimes mortifying excellent ideas with a premature arrival on the market, as in the case of the Biturbo, but also of the Benelli Sei, the first six-cylinder motorcycle produced in series. Hostile to unions, so much so that he showed up at meetings with a wolf dog, capable of unpredictable risks, like the “fake” X1/9, De Tomaso, even between lights and shadows, must certainly be remembered as one of the great protagonists of the national automotive of the last century. For the more attentive, here are some errors that I found after finishing the assembly: the Maserati produced in the Citroen era was not the Ghibli, but the Merak, and Alfa Romeo made an alliance with Nissan, not with Datsun (Claudio Pavanello).
