Alluminio Sotto Attacco? Ci Pensa Sailog! Revisione Turbo Borgwarner Jet Ski Weber

Good morning from SAILOG. Today we're talking about the Weber engines that power personal watercraft (jet skis), and especially about a truly unique turbocharger: the BorgWarner KKK 5303-970-0077. In the video, we show the recovery of a turbo worn out by saltwater: marine corrosion has compromised part of the aluminum structure, forcing us to rebuild the wastegate housing. ⚠️ Unlike 99% of traditional turbochargers, which use a cast iron crankcase, this model uses an aluminum turbine crankcase: a very lightweight and sophisticated solution, but also extremely delicate. Without proper cooling, the temperatures would become so high that the aluminum would almost melt. That's why Weber designed a seawater cooling system integrated directly into the crankcase. The rest of the turbocharger is made by BorgWarner KKK. The process is particularly complex: a similar job can take up to 4-5 hours. This is probably one of the most difficult turbochargers to recover, precisely because of the deterioration aluminum undergoes in the marine environment. In several places, it's clear how much saltwater has attacked the material. This component is still recoverable, but it's truly at its limit. 👉 A key detail, often overlooked, is the presence of internal zinc: an essential element for protecting the system from galvanic corrosion.
