This is a traditional building unique to this area, located in Hirata, Ine-cho, Yosa-gun, Kyoto Prefecture, and has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government. There are about 230 boathouses lined up along the coast of Ine Bay, and you can see the boathouses from a pleasure boat or a sea taxi that tours the bay. You can enjoy a different townscape from the land. You can also feed the seagulls on the pleasure boat. In the past, wooden boats used for fishing needed to be dried, so the boathouses were originally built to pull them out of the sea and protect them from wind, rain, and insects. Since the main function of the boathouses is as a workplace for fishermen, they often have a separate main house (main building) across the street that serves as the base of their lives. There are various ways to enjoy the boathouses, such as taking a leisurely stroll to enjoy them up close, viewing them along with the scenery of Ine Bay from an observation deck, or enjoying the view of the boathouses from the sea. The night view also has a different atmosphere from the daytime, and the lights reflected on the sea and the sound of the waves evoke nostalgia.
