Is city life for us? Van life couple in the Boston area on New England road trip

Ep. 286 - Next stop in our New England road trip: we're exploring the greater Boston area. Is city life for us? Or are we better suited to be out in nature? We explore some beautiful areas around Boston with family and then head into the city. FILM DATES: September 28 - October 1, 2024 CHEAP TRAVEL / FREE THINGS TO DO AROUND BOSTON (Featured in this video): Chebacco Lake (Hamilton, MA): Free access with boat ramp for kayaks and other small vessels Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA: This charming town is located approximately 30 miles north of Boston and is situated on Cape Ann in a region known as the North Shore. Singing Beach (Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA): This beautiful beach is called Singing Beach because the sand is said to sing as you walk across it if the conditions are right. The sound is caused by an abundance of similarly sized, nearly spherical grains of quartz sand on the beach (without much dust or organic matter between the grains). The sand also has to be dry to experience the singing. The parking lot is small and is for town residents only on the weekend during peak season. During the week, there are limited spots for non-residents at $30 a pop. An alternative is taking the train here but it’s still $10 a person! During the off-season you can park at this beach for free! Downtown Boston: There's certainly a lot to do and see in Boston. We opted to do a drive through tour since parking is a challenge and can be expensive. Minot's Ledge Watch Room (Cohasset, MA): Doing a search for lighthouses on Google maps brought us to this location but once we arrived we realized that the lighthouse here is a lantern replica of the Minot Lighthouse that is a mile offshore and is internationally renowned for it 1-4-3 signal, which conveys the message “I love you.” Parking is by permit at this spot. Scituate Lighthouse (Scituate, MA): Originally built in 1811, the light was the fifth built in New England. The Light was deactivated in 1860 with the construction of the new Minot’s Light to the north, and the lantern room was removed.
