Nagoya Travel Vlog Episode 9! Continuing from the previous episode at the aquarium, this time we visit the Antarctic Research Ship Fuji at Nagoya Port, then head back to the city center for two memorable stops. (Visit Period: May 2025) Walking along the harbor promenade towards Fuji, cute penguin footprints on the ground guide the way. After purchasing tickets from the vending machine, it's time to board. The interior is remarkably well-preserved, with life-sized mannequins recreating scenes from daily life aboard the ship — the mess hall, a barbershop, crew quarters, and an Antarctic museum. Each exhibit feels like a window into a bygone era. Up on the flight deck, a helicopter sits on display. Climbing the nearby staircase for a closer look, its sheer size is striking. From there, heading to the bridge reveals an overwhelming array of control panels and gauges — a vivid reminder of the incredible missions this ship once undertook. In the afternoon, back near Nagoya Station, I browsed the Meitetsu Shop before visiting Meitetsu Department Store. This historic department store permanently closed on February 28, 2026, so this was a special trip to see its rare vertical escalator — a unique piece of Japanese department store history, captured just in time. A simple dinner at Dondonya inside the building refueled me for the evening. After dinner, I headed to Midland Square and took Elevator E up to the 42nd floor to purchase tickets, then continued up to the 44th floor Sky Promenade. The observation deck is a semi-open-air space without a full roof, so you can feel the wind directly. Waiting here as dusk turned to night, I took in the illuminated Nagoya Castle and JR Central Towers, with the city's nightscape stretching out below.
