Many of my Halloween props are created from nothing more than paper mache! Crazy right! let me tell you it's cheap and it totally can be protected from the weather! Join me in this last step of creating this amazing Halloween pumpkin from paper mache! How to make a paper mache pumpkin 2nd Generation part 4. In this final step we will paint our pumpkin. The method of painting you will learn in this step creates amazing detail in your pumpkin. By far this is my favorite way to paint. We will start off by giving the pumpkin a good coat of flat black exterior latex paint. After that we will dry brush the entire pumpkin with a white latex paint. Now that we our base paint down we will start to add color and highlights to our paper mache pumpkin. We will start off by painting the whole pumpkin a dirty orange color. Once we have a coat of dirty orange on our pumpkin we will go back again with the same color and repaint, but this time we will only concentrate on the raised areas of the pumpkin. You will continue this way several different times with a lighter color of orange until you are painting just the tips of the raised areas with a yellow color.
