For all those who are new to all this, and your really into Halloween and would like to make an amazing Halloween pumpkin but your not sure where to start. I believe that this Halloween pumpkin series covers all of that! Creating Amazing Halloween props the cheapest way I know how! How to make a paper mache pumpkin part 1. In this first step you will learn how to create the armature for an awesome Halloween paper mache pumpkin. To start off, lets get you a list of the supplies you will need for this first step. 1. Two Plastic shopping bags 2. News paper 3. Masking tape 4. Paper mache paste Before you get going the first thing you will need to do is make a batch of paper mache paste. I use wood glue, four and water for my mache paste. To give you an idea it is about Two cups of glue to one cup of flour and enough water to make the paste a little thinner than pancake batter. Once you have your mache paste ready, its time to get the base of the armature created. Start by stuffing your plastic shopping bags with newspaper. Once the shopping bags are filled with news paper tie them off then tape them together. You will use the masking tape to help create the shape of your pumpkin. Once your happy with the shape of the pumpkin, tape the whole armature up with masking tape. This will make unstuffing your pumpkin much easier. After the armature is fully taped up it's time to layer it with paper mache. You will want to give this at least three layers of paper mache then set it out to dry. After your pumpkin armature is completely dry it will be time to add the stem. Using a piece of news paper twist it up to create the stem, attache it to your armature with masking tape and paper mache it into place. finally add three or four more layers of paper mache to the entire pumpkin armature and set out to dry.
