Creating a Lidded Butter Dish with a Textured Slab and a Focal Accent Ceramics II
This video was originally made to help my Ceramics II students on their Textured Slab Set with Focal Accent Project. In the video, I demonstrate how to roll and texture a slab, and use an acetate pattern I made to create a bottom with a folded side walls, and a butter dish lid with folded side walls. I used a piece of craft from from which I cut my feather focal accent, and I used an MKM wooden roller to create my repeated texture in the background. Link to rollers below When folding slabs, always score and slip the joints, and often add coils for security. I cleaned up the edges with a vegetable peeler, and wet fingers to smooth. Pattern measurements are at the end of the video - but are here too: Base length: 9.5" long, 5.5" wide, the notches were about 3/4" deep- (base that on how tall you want your walls) The top/cover was 11.5" long, 7.5" wide, with each of the corner squares cut out at 2.5" For some of my FAVORITE TOOLS and STUDIO SUPPLIES I often use in my videos, check out this link to a live GoogleDoc of links on Amazon using my associate links! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X... I am a high school ceramics teacher and potter. I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA... I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students! Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes! Please stop by my Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA... to see my personal work! I purchased the mylar (not acetate like I said in the video) in rolls from Amazon, and made many different types of patterns for my students. See link in Googledoc The MudTools ribs are my favorite ribs- in this video, I use the yellow and red ones. (links also in Googledoc)
