Who will be the heads of the 31 basic local governments leading Gyeonggi Province's cities and counties after the 2026 local elections? Local Autonomy TV's "New Workers in Our Neighborhood" organizes the elected heads of basic local governments in Gyeonggi Province for the 9th popular election by region. In Suwon Special City, Mayor Lee Jae-joon of the Democratic Party of Korea will lead the city administration for the 9th term, following his tenure in the 8th popular election. As an urban planning expert, Mayor Lee is expected to pursue the redevelopment of Suwon's downtown area and balanced development as his core priorities. Yongin Special City has set a record as the first mayor to be re-elected since Yongin was elevated to city status in 1996, with People Power Party Mayor Lee Sang-il successfully winning re-election. Key tasks include the creation of a national semiconductor industrial complex, the expansion of the metropolitan transportation network, and the promotion of the semiconductor mega-cluster and the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway. In Goyang Special City, Democratic Party of Korea Mayor Min Gyeong-seon will lead the 9th popularly elected administration. As a transportation expert who served three terms as a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly and as the president of the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, he plans to push forward long-standing local projects, such as shortening commute times, reorganizing bus routes, expanding the metropolitan railway network, and reconstructing Ilsan New Town and constructing a new city hall. In Hwaseong Special City, Democratic Party of Korea Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun has also been re-elected. A seasoned administrator with 30 years of public service experience, he presented the construction of the Hwaseong Circular Railway, the continuous issuance of 1 trillion won in local currency, and the appointment of AI civil servants called "Koribots" as his core pledges. In Seongnam, Shin Sang-jin of the People Power Party has been elected Mayor for the 9th term, following his tenure in the 8th. Leveraging his background as a four-term National Assembly member and former doctor, he put forward key pledges such as supporting redevelopment and reconstruction, establishing a 10 trillion won fund, and constructing a circular railway. In Bucheon, Mayor Cho Yong-ik of the Democratic Party of Korea has been re-elected. A lawyer by profession possessing extensive experience in both the legal and administrative fields, he presented the "B.I.G Bucheon" vision, centered on attracting businesses, urban regeneration, and expanding metropolitan transportation. In Namyangju, Mayor Choi Hyun-deok of the Democratic Party of Korea has taken charge of the 9th term after three attempts. An administrative expert who passed the Higher Civil Service Examination, he unveiled a plan to create a "1 Million Mega City Namyangju" by establishing the Wangsuk High-tech Cluster in Wangsuk New Town, which integrates advanced manufacturing, AI, bio, and energy convergence industries. In Ansan, Mayor Lee Min-geun of the People Power Party has successfully won re-election, becoming the first mayor in the city's history to serve consecutive terms. He plans to pursue AI administrative innovation and the advancement of smart city services based on initiatives such as the designation of the Ansan Science Valley Economic Free Zone, the expansion of the Youth Startup Fund, and the selection of national AI projects. In Anyang, Mayor Choi Dae-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea has successfully won his fourth term, becoming the first mayor in the city's history to serve four terms. He has been pushing forward long-standing local projects, such as the agreement on the relocation of Anyang Prison and the confirmation of the GTX-C stop at Indeokwon Station.
