In this video I introduce the concept of a set and the basic operations on sets in mathematics. I explain what a set is as a fundamental concept that you understand intuitively, and I teach how to correctly denote sets and their elements. I explain how to write that an element belongs or does not belong to a set, and what subsets are. I present the notation of the most important numerical sets (natural, integers, rational, irrational, real). I also discuss the concepts of an infinite set and an empty set. Next, I teach two methods of writing sets: listing elements and set-builder notation. In the later part, I discuss in detail operations on sets: union of sets, intersection of sets (common part), and difference of sets, illustrating them with graphical and algebraic examples. In the final part of the video, I present mixed problems involving all learned set operations and explain how to calculate the number of elements of a set (cardinality). Table of contents: 1.
