Session 2: Sociolegal studies: research and activism in illiberal and authoritarian settings part 2 This is the second of three sessions on sociolegal studies at a workshop hosted by the University of New South Wales, with the support of the Law & Society Association, in June 2025.This session features Dr Maryam Khan (Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives, Pakistan) and Dr Visakesa Chandrasekaram (UNSW, formerly based at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka) and is chaired by Professor Melissa Crouch, UNSW. We discuss sociolegal studies in relation to South Asia, its relationship to public policy and research advocacy and activism, and the challenges and opportunities of transitioning from studying in one location to working in another.
