Session 3: Sociolegal studies: from research project to book This is the third of three sessions on sociolegal studies at a workshop hosted by the University of New South Wales, with the support of the Law & Society Association, in June 2025. This panel features author of The Palimpsest Constitution: The Social Life of Constitutions in Myanmar (2025), Professor Melissa Crouch, in conversation with Associate Professor Shohini Sengupta (Jindal Law School, and UNSW PhD candidate), and Suhail Rashid Bhat (lawyer and UNSW PhD candidate), chaired by Associate Professor Christoph Sperfeldt (Macquarie University). The panel considers the possibilities and challenges of undertaking research in/on/from illiberal, authoritarian or military contexts, and the presentation and representation of such research in book-length sociolegal projects.
