How to know if the word is from God
"Come here all who are heavy laden and I will give you a challenge..." This is not what Jesus said, He said that He gives rest for those who are burned out on religion and self-effort. In Christianity at large we have grown accustomed to being "challenged" and we shun resting as "passiveness and laziness". We cling to sermons and pastors that "challenges" us, rather than teachings that make us enter His rest, and out of that rest, grow in wisdom, revelation and fruit. The mind thinks, but the heart knows. The heart wants to hear from its father, the mind gets tricked into self-improvement knowledge. I discuss how I have come to distinguish between good religious motivational talk, and the word that comes from Heaven and is sweeter than Honey. The word that challenges you to enter rest, not work harder on yourself. John 6:35: "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.'" John 6:51: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever." Matthew 4:4: "But he answered, 'It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."'" (Jesus is quoting Deuteronomy 8:3 here). Psalm 34:8: "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!" Psalm 119:103: "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" Hebrews 6:5: "...and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come." 1 Peter 2:2-3: "Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good." Jeremiah 15:16: "Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts." Ezekiel 3:3: "And he said to me, 'Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.' Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey." Job 23:12: "I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food."
