🥾🧭🪨🌞🍂🌌😏 The Lineham Creek Peaks are a classic Front Ranges scramble that look complicated on maps, confusing in guidebooks, and somehow easier once you stop expecting a trail to behave itself. This solo outing targets the North, Center, and South Lineham Creek Peaks—leaving Trap Peak (the actual problem child) for another day—on what was likely the last warm, snow-free weekend of the season. Naturally, this seemed like a perfect time to test a pair of unhappy knees. The day starts innocently enough at the Lineham PRA along Highway 40. There is a trail… until there isn’t. Then there’s another one. Then a blaze on a tree that gets your hopes up for about five seconds before disappearing completely. The key takeaway early on is simple: don’t cross the creek too early, stay on the left side longer than feels reasonable, and accept that route-finding here is more of a suggestion than a rule. Eventually, after enough creek-walking, light bushwhacking, and internal debates about life choices, the route breaks out onto the southwest ridge of the first peak. From here, things finally calm down. The ridge is broad, sunny, and mercifully easy, offering great views of all four objectives lined up ahead. The scrambling stays moderate, with a few annoying drop-offs that look worse than they are—classic Front Ranges behavior. The North Peak comes first, delivering surprisingly good views for such a low-profile objective. From there, a short but entertaining ridge leads to the Center Peak, with some enjoyable SC6 scrambling right under the ridge crest. Despite appearances, everything goes at a reasonable difficulty if you’re willing to use ledges and goat trails instead of charging straight over the crest like a hero. The South Peak looks intimidating from a distance, but once again, reality undercuts the drama. Ledges, ramps, and friendly rock keep things manageable, and any exposure encountered is mostly optional—unless you’re feeling spicy. A large group of mountain goats adds entertainment on the traverse, silently judging footwear, pace, and general decision-making. The rumored traverse to Trap Peak looks appropriately horrifying, so discretion wins - in my case because I've already done it. The descent follows easy rubble and scree into a wide drainage, which slowly narrows back into Lineham Creek. Knees complain loudly, occasional yelps echo through the valley, but nothing catastrophic happens—always a win.
