Scenic Drive | Aurlandsfjellet | Lærdalsøyri - Aurlandsvangen

Instead of driving the main road E16 through the 24.6 km Lærdal tunnel, we chose to drive the scenic mountain pass over Aurlandsfjellet. This road starts in Lærdalsøyri and takes us up to an altitude of over 1,300 meters and down to Aurlandsvangen on the other side. The road is sometimes narrow and winding and the large tourist traffic up to the viewing platform Stegasteinen made it sometimes chaotic on the way down through the hairpin bends to Aurlandsvangen. In any case, this is a great trip that we recommend. Aurlandsfjellet also offers fantastic hiking terrain that we would like to return to on a later occasion.
