Some believe it was used by officials connected to Lord Nelson, others claim it supported a lantern or even the cathedral bell. The truth is that nobody really knows its original purpose, and it remains one of Valletta's great little mysteries. We also stop at the historic Castellania building, where you'll discover the strange stone podium that was not intended for a saint's statue as many people assume. Instead, it was used for the public humiliation of prisoners sentenced by the courts.
