In May 1990, with the inauguration of the M3 line, a new station was built on Viale Monte Rosa, and the controls for the M1 and M2 lines were transferred there. The old station was demolished in 2015 due to construction work on the new M4 line. The station is 688 meters from the Duomo station and 528 meters from the Palestro station. The M4 line, initially scheduled to open at the end of June 2023, was completed on July 4 of that year, marking the extension of the line from the previous temporary Dateo terminus. Located between Piazza San Babila and Corso Europa, the station shares a common structure with all the other stations on the line: an underground, through station with two tracks, one for each direction of travel, and a central platform serving both tracks. From July 4, 2023, to October 11, 2024, the station served as the temporary terminus until the inauguration of the full line to San Cristoforo. The station is approximately 800 meters from the Tricolore stop and approximately 1 km from the Sforza Policlinico stop. The station has thus become an interchange hub for the Milan metro network, allowing access to the Blue Line from another metro line for the first time and guaranteeing a connection to Linate Airport in 12 minutes.
