Summer Solstice at Castlerigg — A Vanlife Pilgrimage

We drove the van to a 5,000-year-old stone circle for Summer Solstice 2026 — and honestly, it changed us. Castlerigg Stone Circle, built 700 years before Stonehenge, sits just outside Keswick in the Lake District. Me and my 17-year-old daughter Annabell walked up from Burns Farm campsite (£37 a night, 5 AA stars, spotlessly clean, proper facilities) to experience sunset, then woke at 3:30am to walk back for sunrise. What happened at sunrise… I wasn't ready for it. We both sat there on my late mum's patchwork quilt, holding back tears as the sun came over the horizon. This is vanlife UK at its best. No tent. No faff. Just the campervan, a campsite, and a pilgrimage we'll never forget. 🪨 Castlerigg Stone Circle, built ~3,000 BC 🌅 Summer Solstice, sunset + sunrise at the stones 🚐 Burns Farm Campsite (£37/night, 5★ AA) 🎨 Annabell's henna tattoos (Heilung snail warrior + Norse sun symbol) Would you do solstice at a stone circle?
