Train Simulator Classic 2025: Thessaloniki Express deel 1 (1997)

In the late 1980s and throughout the following 1990s, a remarkably curious and rare phenomenon took place: a group of enthusiastic NS employees decided to travel across Europe together on their own initiative—with their “own” couchette coach—making use of the international locomotive-hauled trains and connections of the time. The coach was attached and detached at major railway hubs, being shunted into and out of existing (D-)trains. Logistically, this required extremely precise preparation with the various railway companies, who had to integrate it into their local shunting processes. It was essentially a hop-on, hop-off system that would no longer be possible today—partly due to a completely transformed international rail system, and partly because of the widespread use of different rolling stock, with trains increasingly operating on high-speed lines in later years. But above all, the level of informal coordination and arrangement simply no longer fits within modern corporate cultures.
