She turned this disgusting bathroom into a cosy bedroom...
This room used to be our bathroom. Damp walls, a leaking toilet, rotten floors, failing cement pointing, old fittings, very little charm, and an awful smell. But as our plans for the cottage evolved, we decided to transform the space by returning it to its original purpose: our third bedroom. In this video we strip the room back, remove inappropriate modern materials, install breathable wood fibre insulation boards, plaster with lime, decorate with natural finishes, and finally lay reclaimed wool carpet to create a warm, comfortable space. It's another step in our ongoing effort to restore this old Welsh cottage using natural materials, traditional techniques, reclaimed resources, and a healthy dose of determination. Along the way there are plenty of challenges, a battle with carpet fitting during a heatwave, and a finished room that feels a world away from the bathroom we started with. If you're interested in traditional buildings, lime plaster, natural insulation, cottage restoration, low-impact living, and making the most of old houses on a modest budget, you're in the right place. We're Joe and Lydia, and we quit our day jobs to restore our 200-year-old cottage in Wales, and we want to show you as much entertaining and educational content as we can produce. The restoration can sometimes be daunting. A bit like renovating a cottage in Ireland, Wales can be wet and cold and thoroughly rewarding in its own charming way!
