(#90) Roof Work Surprises, Challenges & Solutions
Installing the top layers of the new tile roof, if everything goes to plan. First, we installed a layer of Kingspan TA41 insulation panels. Which were quick and easy to place. Then the first of the week's surprises and a slight change of plan. After some unplanned indoor wall work, an impermeable membrane was the next layer to go on. There were more surprises during this phase, but solutions were found. Next was a layer of corrugated XPS for some mortar to go on top of. The team then rebuilt parts of the old cornice with bricks and tiles and an adjusted gradient, as preparation for the new gutters. Then by the end of the week it was time to start the final layer of curved barrel tiles. First, a line of tiles was placed at each end and then lines in between could be started. This involved a combination of new tiles and the re-use of old tiles that were on the roof before. - - - - chapters - - - - 00:00 intro 00:17 prep 01:53 kingspan TA41 03:05 TA41 - part 2 05:09 surprised 06:25 plan b 09:25 drying time 11:29 adjusting panels 13:38 impermeable 15:42 another surprise 17:59 final sheets 19:13 cornices 22:35 morning & meetings 24:31 cornice & tiles 28:41 morning 5 30:16 grass & tiles 33:07 tiles & tidying 35:46 outro - - - - about my channel and its videos - - - - My channel is about the renovation and restoration of an old stone house on a hill in Catalunya (North East of Spain). The house is near the Costa Brava and has magnificent views of the forest around it and the Mediterranean Sea. The house has many beautiful old features, including its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, ancient terracotta tiles and many quirky parts added over the centuries. For a lot of the time I am working on the house on my own as I try to turn it into a dream home in harmony with the nature and culture that surrounds it. But for bigger phases of work I am helped by a small team of local builders. The house is not in France or Italy and is not a Chateau or Cabin, but I watch and am inspired by channels that are. Especially Martijn Doolaard and Dan Preston's Escape to Rural France. I love Martijn's style, philosophy and cinematography and Dan's energy, humour and ambition. I'm trying to include some of these attributes in my videos.
