Founded over 300 years ago, Funasaka Brewery is venturing into the world of craft whiskey while carrying on the spirit cultivated through sake brewing. The brewery takes advantage of the natural environment at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters and the pure, ice-cold waters of Mount Norikura. The distillery incorporates local techniques, including the "ZEMON" cast-metal still and the "HIDA BARREL," a unique "bent wood" barrel made by Hida furniture maker Nissin Mokko. A closed school has been revived, serving as a stage for connecting the past, future, and regional pride through whisky. It's been 100 years since the dawn of domestic whisky in Japan. Modeled after Scotch whisky, Japanese whisky has also embraced various challenges throughout its history and is now highly acclaimed overseas. Recently, interest in single malts that utilize the unique characteristics of each distillery has grown, and many people are enjoying a wide variety of whisky. This program offers a fun way to learn about whisky, which has developed a unique culture over its long history and with the passage of time, and discover special whiskies. Drama, reportage, interviews... we will present the appeal of whisky from a variety of angles. To convey the current state of Japanese whisky, we will cover many distilleries.
