Appunti Divini: Alessandro Fonseca Tenuta Isola del Giglio

Alessandro Fonseca: I'm walking along the path that connects the road to Capel Rosso, the southern tip of the island, and this path takes me downhill for 800 meters to our vineyard. The area where the vineyard is located is called Finocchio, and in a few seconds I'll show you the view, which, like everywhere on Giglio, is breathtaking. There's a bit of backlighting because we're right on the southwest side of the island, so there are reflections from both the sun and the sea, but we'll manage to show you what we've come up with this time on this island. Our vineyard was partly planted about 14 years ago, and we've expanded this initial core. Currently, there's about 9,000 square meters of planted vines. They're all small terraces, not particularly trendy. You can see right next to the vineyards is the small group of people. The Capannello is two things at once: a warehouse for Giglio's winemakers, and at the same time, in ancient times, a part of the Capannello, now covered, was actually used for winemaking. According to the island's ancient tradition, granite stones were quarried and small vats were created where the grapes were pressed and then left in a second vat to ferment. Tenuta Isola del Giglio is a winery created specifically to realize this dream of producing wine from the Ansonica grapes on the island of Giglio. Right now, I'm in the vineyard, still with a bit of spring grass, so you may have to tolerate the presence of the grass, but I'll show you the view.
