Umberto Tulli traces the history of human rights and analyzes their rise and current social perception. He is an associate professor of contemporary history at the Department of Humanities and Philosophy and the School of International Studies at the University of Trento, where he specializes in Cold War history, European integration, and human rights history. He coordinates a research project on the return of Italian volunteers to their homeland between 1870 and 1970, and is deputy coordinator of a project on transnational solidarity with political prisoners between 1919 and 1939. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Human Rights Breakthrough of the 1970s: The European Community and International Relations (with S. Lorenzini and I. Zamburlini, London, 2022) and A Precarious Equilibrium. Human Rights and Détente in Jimmy Carter’s Foreign Policy (Manchester, 2020).
