Steam in Paradise 2005 - Part 3
At one time Ifrain Alfonso used the most powerful steam locomotives at work on sugar cane lines.in Cuba. On this video ALCO 4-6-0 built 1920 (incorrectly 1929 on the video caption) was in use. Note the railway crossing the six lane autopista (motorway) on the level with just a single flagman to control the traffic. Marcello Salado was developing a steam museum and the locomotives were always kept in a very clean condition. During a footplate ride on ALCO 4-6-0 built in 1920 a lengthy wait for a rail-car to pass on the single track gave the footplate crew time to refresh themselves with tots of rum. Because of the lengthy break, the oil supply to the fire was turned off. Note how easy it was to reignite it when required, any loss in steam pressure was be quickly restored.
