Der Gurkenzug

The Historic Railway Train: The real "Cucumber Train" was a legendary express train (E 1681 / E 1686) of the German Reichsbahn, which, especially in the early 1990s, transported day-trippers from Nauen via the Berlin S-Bahn to Lübbenau in the Spreewald region. It originated as a nickname because Lübbenau is the center of the famous Spreewald cucumber production. The train was usually pulled by historic Class 52 steam locomotives. Regular steam service ended in 1994. Occasionally, associations like the Berlin Railway Enthusiasts revive the "Cucumber Train" as a nostalgic special train for day trips.
