Otsushima, located a 20-minute boat ride from Tokuyama Port, is home to a training facility for the Kaiten, a special attack weapon used during the Pacific War to slam into enemy ships along with its crew. The Kaiten-related buildings are not only important as wartime heritage, but also valuable architectural heritage. Constructed around 1938 as a military facility for torpedo test firing, the island was later used as a Kaiten training facility. Caissons are used for the foundations. ...
