Well… that’s one way to ruin a perfectly good evening at the CBS Arena. Coventry City vs Ipswich Town — round two. Four weeks ago we went to Portman Road, got humbled 3-0, and politely accepted our second loss of the season. Fast-forward to now, and with injuries clearing up and two straight 1–0 home wins over Swansea and Bristol City, hopes were sky-high. And for about… two or three minutes… we looked dominant. Confident. Like a team that absolutely was not about to suffer their first home loss of the season. Then Ipswich decided they fancied playing football. The rest of the first half? All Ipswich. They pressed like their lives depended on it. Every time the ball found Sakamoto or Mason Clark, they were swarmed by two or three Tractor Boys faster than you can say “we desperately need January reinforcements”. Despite missing Bobby Thomas and Jay Dasilva, Luke Wolfenden and Miguel Ángel Brau were brilliant stand-ins, but Ipswich turned up with intent. They bagged two in the second half… and honestly, if Carl Rushworth didn’t morph into Prime Buffon, it could’ve been a lot more. Their finishing let us off lightly. Was it a Coventry disasterclass? No. Ipswich were just — annoyingly — much better. And yes… they’ve now taken six points off us this season and handed us two of our three defeats, including our first defeat at home. But here’s the silver lining: WE ARE STILL TOP OF THE TABLE — 8 points clear of Middlesbrough and 10 clear of Ipswich. The Sky Blue ship is still floating… just taking on a tiny bit of water.
