Fastpacking Through Spain’s Endless Sea of Olives
Baena to Castro del Río — 20km along the Camino Mozárabe through an endless sea of olives, a blind-corner road section, and a race against the black clouds closing in from the west. This is Day 2 of the Camino Relay — Series 2. Four days, four episodes, Alcaudete to Córdoba. Sarah runs one day, Steve runs the next. It's a training block for a bigger adventure coming later this year (more on that soon), and a chance to share one of Spain's quieter Caminos before we finish with a rest day in Córdoba. Today, Steve's running solo. A cool morning in Baena, rain threatening all day, Roman ruins on the edge of town, and an idea that's been sitting in the back of his mind for years — finally said out loud on the trail. New episode every Saturday — subscribe and join us for the rest of the relay 👣 What I pass today: Baena, Córdoba — start point, junction of the Málaga and Granada spurs of the Camino Mozárabe Torreparedones — recently excavated Roman archaeological site on the edge of Baena Camino Mozárabe — yellow markers through olive groves and drovers' roads into the Guadajoz valley Río Guadajoz — river crossing mid-stage, birds singing in the riverside trees Castro del Río, Córdoba — finish point, said to be where Cervantes began writing Don Quixote Chapters 00:00 Welcome to Baena 00:15 Today's route — the plan 01:30 Leaving Baena — finding the yellow markers 01:49 Baena's drumming festival mural 01:58 Torreparedones — Roman ruins 03:28 Into the Sea of Olives 05:26 The olive grove land divide 06:30 The road section — proceed with caution 08:46 An idea years in the making — trail running for the partially sighted 11:40 Seven kilometres to go — black clouds closing in 12:32 Into Castro del Río 16:57 Arrival — 20km done 18:09 Day 3 preview — Sarah runs to Santa Cruz 🗺️ Route: Baena → Castro del Río via the Camino Mozárabe (~20km) 🎒 Series: Camino Mozárabe — Alcaudete to Córdoba | The Camino Relay 📏 Stage distance: 20km, ~120m ascent 📸 Instagram: / caminorun_official 👍 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... #CaminoMozarabe #TrailRunningSpain #Andalucia #CaminoRelay #OliveGroves #RunningSpain #FastpackingSpain #CaminoDeSantiago #HiddenAndalusia #UltraTrailSpain
