The Mystery of the Flannan Isle Lighthouse

In December 1900, a lighthouse tender arrived at a remote Scottish island to relieve three lighthouse keepers who had been stationed there for weeks. Nobody came down to meet the ship. Inside the lighthouse the lamps were cleaned and refilled. The beds were unmade. Cold ashes sat in the grate. One oilskin coat remained on the hook by the door. Three experienced lighthouse keepers had simply vanished from an island with no way off. No bodies were ever found. No distress signal was ever sent. And the logbook entries described the worst storm any of them had ever seen — despite the fact that nobody on the Scottish mainland reported a single cloud in the sky. 125 years later this mystery has never been solved. This is the full story. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 — The Hook 1:20 — The Island & The Men 3:30 — What Moore Found 6:00 — The Logbook 8:30 — The Contradiction Nobody Can Explain 9:30 — What Happened 🔔 Subscribe to Fathomy for maritime mysteries, disappearances, and untold stories from the deep — new videos every Sunday and Wednesday. 📖 FURTHER READING The Lighthouse by Keith McCluskey — the most thorough investigation into the Eilean Mor mystery ever published.
