SS Baychimo: The Unsinkable Ghost Ship

In 1931, a cargo ship called the SS Baychimo became trapped in Arctic ice off the coast of Alaska. Her crew abandoned her, fully expecting the ship to be crushed and sunk within days. She wasn't. Instead the Baychimo broke free and spent the next 38 years drifting unmanned through Arctic waters. She was spotted more than a dozen times by sailors, explorers, and Inuit hunters. People boarded her. People tried to salvage her. The Alaskan government launched a search for her. Nobody could catch her. Nobody could stop her. And in 1969 she was seen one final time — and then vanished forever.
