Generative AI literacy for teachers
Ryan Tannenbaum / ryan-tannenbaum-a64840207 Owner for.education Access the tool 'Getting into the Mind of AI': https://tokens.for.education/ Playlist of expert talks on GenAI in Education: • Expert online talks on genAI in education Abstract: AI is evolving rapidly, but the core principles behind large language models (LLMs) remain unchanged. To use AI effectively in education, it’s essential to understand how these systems actually function. This talk will introduce fundamental AI concepts, giving educators a clear framework for evaluating and applying AI tools in their teaching. We’ll break down key topics like tokenization, sampling, and bias, then connect these to real-world pedagogical applications. We’ll explore: How LLMs process, interpret, and generate language How different languages are handled by AI models Why LLMs hallucinate—and whether we can detect and prevent misinformation A deep dive into assessment, AI-powered grading, and educational software Discuss strategies to ethically and responsibly implement AI solutions in the classroom No prior technical knowledge is required. Our goal is to help educators critically engage with AI, ask the right questions, and make informed decisions about integrating these tools into their classrooms. Bio: Ryan Tannenbaum is an educational consultant who specializes in data, data-driven culture, and pedagogically grounded technical implementations for schools. He began his career teaching in international schools throughout Asia. Over more than a decade working as a teacher, principal, and IT director, he founded For.Education—a company that provides pedagogically grounded technical solutions with a specific focus on data and AI. Currently, Ryan is critically evaluating generative AI technology—exploring how it can safely enhance learning and pedagogical practices in schools while also interrogating the potential challenges it may introduce. Driven by the core philosophy that we can either lead technology forward in our organizations or be led by it, his talks empower audiences to develop a deeper understanding of these technologies, how they work, and where they are most appropriately applied.
