Travellers and Kerry locals in conflict 1968
In Castleisland, County Kerry, tensions escalated when a group of men demanded that Travellers vacate a long-standing campsite, leading to violent threats against the community. Despite the town's history of goodwill towards Travellers and efforts by the Itinerant Resettlement Committee to integrate them, misunderstandings arose, partly due to an influx of Travellers from Galway who had caused disturbances prior to Christmas. In response to the heightened tensions, the resident Travellers agreed to relocate to various other sites to maintain harmony within the town. Broadcast on 12 February 1968
