Travellers and Tallaght locals clash in 1984
Tensions flared in Tallaght as local residents took action to prevent Traveller families from settling on nearby greenspaces. The Travellers, displaced by roadworks on the Tallaght Bypass, expressed concern over the safety of their children due to speeding traffic. In response, some began throwing stones at passing vehicles. Surrounding communities mounted 24-hour patrols and used barricades to block Traveller access, citing years of inaction from local authorities. Broadcast on 23 June 1984. \#archive #Travellers
