My First Solo Camping Experience | Lucavsala, Riga, Latvia | Amok Draumr 5

I finally did it… my very first solo camping trip. After long time of anticipating, stressing and feeling anxious about it, I packed my gear, headed to Lucavsala in Riga, Latvia, and spent the night alone in my Amok Draumr 5 hammock overlooking the beautiful Riga skyline. Solo camping turned out to be exciting, peaceful… and at times completely overwhelming. As someone with ADHD, I quickly realised that I couldn’t do everything I’d planned. I wanted to relax, film, cook, enjoy nature, and photograph birds all at once—but sometimes you have to choose your battles. Instead of chasing every photo opportunity, I slowed down and simply experienced the moment. The campsite rewarded me with an incredible dawn chorus, peaceful morning views across the river, and even some unexpected Northern Goshawk drama that unfolded right above the trees! This trip taught me plenty about what works, what doesn’t, and what I’ll do differently on future solo adventures. Every first trip is a learning experience—and this one certainly was.
