Our EarthRoamer travels in Baja: Catavina to the Coast EP1

We completed a 110 mile off-road loop through the Catavina desert to the coast and took a different trail out further down the coast…we’ll just call that one “the trail from hell”! Apparently they have had some pretty big storms in Baja that have wrecked some already pretty sketchy trails. We never got out of 4-low and averaged 2.5 mph for the 110 mile loop and it took most of 5 days. Some of the slow going was because there was so much cool stuff to see…but much of it was just running a 9 ton rig through some really rough trail and trying not to break stuff and get stuck. This is the most incredible desert we have ever seen and you are rewarded with amazing beaches all to yourself…but we did it solo and it was pretty stressful. We cut a sidewall on the first day and tried plugging it. The plugs would last a couple miles then blow out on off-camber stuff so we had to put on a spare. We carry two spares but now with one left and 90+ miles to go…it was a little more interesting. This adventure was more than we expected but we made it out relatively unscathed. Ruth did a great job of shooting video with one hand and spotting me through tough sections with the other! We are chopping it up into bit sized chunks if you wish to see what the adventure was like…this is EP1.
