Mountain Meditation Walk | Costa Rica AirBnB Cabin
This film is the final chapter of a four-part journey through the mountains of Costa Rica. What began with birdwatching and trout fishing slowly turned inward, and by the end of this trip, the landscape felt less like scenery and more like a mirror. I have been returning to Costa Rica several times a year since 2020. When the pandemic disrupted what I once called “normal life,” it forced me to question the pace, the noise, and the expectations I had been living under. Since then, whenever burnout begins to surface, I no longer try to overpower it. I go somewhere that reminds me there is another way to live. This time, that place was Providencia de Dota, a small mountain community near Cerro de la Muerte in the Talamanca range, surrounded by cloud forest and highland farms. There is no spectacle here. No itinerary. No curated experience. The mornings begin with water, breath, and stillness instead of notifications. The roads invite you to walk without a destination. The mountains do not demand productivity. Silence does not have to be hunted down; it simply exists. In that space, meditation feels less like a practice to complete and more like something you can sink into fully. Rest does not need to be earned. It is simply part of the rhythm of the day. This trip came at the end of a ninety-day leave from work that I had hoped would feel expansive and creative. Instead, much of it was spent in front of a computer learning how to edit and build something new. By the time I arrived in Providencia, I felt untethered. I needed to disconnect completely. No SIM card. No goals. No performance. Just a willingness to follow the road wherever it led and sit when it felt right. Luis, Patricia and their family welcomed me with a generosity that goes beyond hospitality. Walking through their garden, listening to them speak about what grows well at this altitude and what does not, reminded me that a meaningful life is often quiet and rooted in care. Their home is not built for attention. It is built for living. I have come to Costa Rica nearly ten times in the last few years, and with each visit it feels less like escape and more like recalibration. The mountains near Cerro de la Muerte have given me something I cannot manufacture in a louder world: the space to remember who I am when I am not reacting to everything around me. They remind me that life does not have to be fast to be full. If you have been feeling overwhelmed or stretched thin, perhaps the answer is not to push harder. Perhaps it is to step away long enough to remember what stillness feels like. This film is not about travel as spectacle. It is about walking without a destination and allowing quiet to do its work. Thank you to Luis and his family for their friendship and generosity. Thank you to this land for the reminder. If this kind of story speaks to you, you are welcome to follow along. There will be many more mornings like this. Pura vida.
