How To Check Your R1200RT Exhaust Flap
The BMW R1200RT and some other BMW bikes have an exhaust flap installed just before the muffler. It's probably to control exhaust flow for emissions (to bring the temperature of the catalytic converter up quickly, for example) but whatever the case it can cause issues if it becomes seized in place. A computer controlled solenoid is supposed to open and close the internal flap as needed, but if it becomes stuck closed the exhaust can become restricted. This video will show what to look for and how the self-test is performed.
