V 100 der Bundesbahn

The DB Class V 100 diesel locomotives, initially boasting 1,100 hp, were dubbed "jacks-of-all-trades." From 1958 to 1965, a family of locomotives was built, comprising over 700 units of the later Class 211, the powerful Class 212, and the steep-grade Class 213. See their history up to their retirement from DB AG. In their second life, these reliable machines are used in a variety of roles by private companies. The V 100s used for rescue trains, which were rebuilt at the Kassel repair shop, are also featured. DB AG reclassified these locomotives, initially designated Class 214, as Class 714 service vehicles. The locomotives later modernized at the Bremen plant are designated Class 714.1.
