Ofuna Station is the northern gateway to Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. I stepped away from the hustle and bustle of the station and into a realm of silence. Climbing steep stone steps, I found Mokusenji Temple, which moved here from Shizuoka after a century. The inorganic silence of the main hall with its shutters down and the rustling of the trees in the autumn breeze create a stark contrast with the cityscape below. Further inside, I ventured into a valley where traces of the former Nagao Castle still linger. There, I found another temple of the same name, different from the famous Hasedera, standing quietly. Though the temple's kitchen is now abandoned and decaying, fresh flowers offered by local residents quietly speak to the warmth of faith. I then arrived at Aoki Shrine, reinforced with concrete like a fortress. After climbing 120 steep steps, I was greeted by a vast sky and long lantern poles awaiting the festival heat.
