In Tokyo's Shibuya Ward, enormous, shining golden ginkgo trees obscure the metropolitan sky. The chill of the wind touches my skin, and the sound of falling leaves signals the deepening of the season. On this quiet evening, I decided to walk through Yoyogi Park, a vast park comparable in size to Tokyo Disneyland. Stepping inside reveals quietly resting traces of the land's turbulent history, unmentioned in tourist guides. It was once an Imperial Army training ground, the U.S. military facility Washington Heights, and the Olympic Village for the Tokyo Olympics, and continues to this day. The rows of cherry blossom trees, which throng with people in spring, have now shed their leaves, preparing to retreat into the silence of winter.
