A notorious criminal with 113 serious criminal cases against him was allegedly roaming the city with illegal firearms, reportedly on his way to commit another offence. However, the alertness of the South-East Delhi Police ensured that his plan was foiled before it could be executed. Around midnight, a joint team of the South-East District's Special Task Force (STF), Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS), and Lajpat Nagar Police Station was conducting a routine checking operation near Jal Vihar in Lajpat Nagar. During the operation, police noticed two men riding a suspicious motorcycle and signaled them to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee. As the police team closed in, the accused allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at the officers in an attempt to escape. Police first warned them to surrender, but when the firing continued, the officers retaliated in self-defense. During the exchange of fire, both accused sustained bullet injuries in their right legs and were overpowered. They were immediately shifted to Safdarjung Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The arrested accused have been identified as Pramod Kumar alias Tutan and Rajesh. During the search, police recovered one illegal pistol with a magazine, one country-made pistol (desi katta), one live cartridge, and seven empty cartridges from their possession. The motorcycle used by the accused was also found to be stolen. The most shocking aspect of the case is the criminal history of the main accused, Pramod Kumar alias Tutan. According to police, he has been involved in approximately 113 criminal cases, including robbery, snatching, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act. Despite such an extensive criminal record, he was allegedly moving around the city armed with illegal weapons, posing a serious threat to public safety. Police suspect that he was on his way to commit another crime when he was intercepted. His associate, Rajesh, is also a habitual offender with 15 criminal cases registered against him. Preliminary investigation has revealed that both accused were actively involved in snatching and robbery cases across Delhi. Their arrest has helped police solve four recent snatching cases in the Lajpat Nagar area and nearby localities. According to Delhi Police, the successful operation was the result of continuous surveillance, intelligence inputs, and intensified night checking. Officers believe that had the suspects not been intercepted in time, they could have carried out another violent crime using the illegal firearms recovered from them. A fresh case has been registered against both accused under relevant sections for attempt to murder, assault on public servants, illegal possession of firearms, and other applicable provisions of law. The recovered weapons and the stolen motorcycle have been sent for forensic examination, while investigators are questioning the accused to identify their associates and establish their involvement in other pending criminal cases. The encounter once again highlights the importance of active police patrolling and intelligence-based operations in preventing serious crimes. This time, a notorious criminal with 113 criminal cases against him, along with his accomplice, was stopped before they could allegedly execute yet another offence in the national capital.
