Today, we're showing you the work of our Peter & Son laboratory: we're fixing the speakers and completely redoing the crossover to bring these historic speakers to benchmark performance. In this video, we start with a true story: these JBLs arrived in the laboratory after an old, poorly executed "hobbyist" restoration that risked compromising them. Pier Giorgio immediately shows you the mistake we made and how we fixed it, but the real focus of our work is the upgrade. Vintage JBLs have fantastic speakers, but their crossovers are influenced by fifty-year-old technology (and often by factory cost-cutting). By replacing the old components with modern solutions, these speakers are completely transformed, and upgrading becomes the best way to enhance them. In the video, we also address a much-debated topic: why don't we show the response curves in videos and why don't we show the difference in sound on YouTube?
