Taking on Norway: HALLINGDANS | With Jendrik Sigwart

Jendrik is challenged to take on Norway's national dance: Hallingdans. Jendrik travels to Hallingdal and the bear park in Flå, where he gets just one day to learn and perform his own Hallingdans. Have you ever tried Hallingdans? "Hallingdans" is a rhythmic acrobatic folk dance traditionally performed in rural Norway and is associated with the valleys and traditional districts of Valdres and Hallingdal, where it's often referred to as "lausdans" (loose dance). The term refers to it being danced solo, not in couples – although coupled hallingdans is traditional in the western parts of the country. One of the dance moves is called "hallingkast", in this move a hat is held high using a stick or something similar, and the dancer will kick down the hat as a test of strength. "Taking on Norway" is a YouTube series where Jendrik steps out of his comfort zone with different challenges, while he travels through Norway and meets Norwegians who are experts at what they do.
