South Africa - Marlin Van Sensie

In South Africa, where many young people from under‑resourced communities have never experienced the ocean, the I Am Water Foundation is reconnecting hearts and minds with the sea. Through snorkelling and ocean conservation workshops, young people learn mindfulness, breathing, yoga and a deep respect for marine life. Follow Marlin’s journey, a mentor who once worked in an aquarium, rediscovered his own spark for the ocean, and now shares that inspiration with children learning to snorkel for the first time. We contributed to the SESLA (Sport for Education and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa) programme in South Africa by supporting the local staff and young people using the Participatory Video and Most Significant Change methodology to document and articulate their stories of change.
