"TRAMP! TRAMP! TRAMP!" 1864 Civil War Song Played On 1905 MIRA Concert Grand Music Box
Here is the beloved 1864 American Civil War song, "Tramp! Tramp! Tramp! (The Prisoner's Hope)" composed by George F. Root and played on one of our Mira 18 ½ inch Concert Grand console music boxes. This very spirited song was written primarily to encourage the Union Civil War prisoners that hope for them was coming and to not be discouraged. This song remains one of my all time favorites to play on the music box here as well as on the phonographs in my collection. Thanks for stopping in and I hope you enjoy this rendition as much as I do. Here is the entire first verse: In the prison cell I sit, Thinking Mother dear, of you, And our bright and happy home so far away, And the tears they fill my eyes Spite of all that I can do, Though I try to cheer my comrades and be gay. Tramp, tramp, tramp, the boys are marching, Cheer up comrades they will come, And beneath the starry flag We shall breathe the air again, Of the free land in our own beloved home.
