My Mother Said She'd Make Jam | Yamamomo Three Ways in Rural Japan

I went to my parents' garden to pick garlic chives for gyoza. But instead, I came home with a mountain of yamamomo. My mother had said she would make jam, but then she suddenly said she was too busy to make it. This happens quite often — somehow, I end up following my mother's sudden ideas. Yamamomo don't keep well — not even for a day. So the gyoza had to wait, and I spent the day making fruit wine, compote, and jam. To be honest, I've never really liked the smell of yamamomo. But the compote didn't smell at all, and the jam I made was surprisingly good. In the end, my mother's sudden idea turned out to be a good one. It would have been mottainai to waste them. Even though she now says she doesn't want any of the jam. More for me. Yamamomo (Myrica rubra) is also known as red bayberry. Days like this won't last forever. So I quietly treasure them. If you're new here — welcome. I film the quiet, ordinary moments of family life in the Japanese countryside. 🌿 Please turn on CC for English subtitles. 0:00 Opening 0:24 Picking Garlic Chives for Gyoza 0:33 Harvesting Yamamomo 1:36 Washing and Drying the Yamamomo 2:19 Making Yamamomo Wine 2:49 Making Yamamomo Compote 3:27 Making Yamamomo Jam 4:35 A Little Reward 🎵 Music 朝のカフェ・オ・レ / のる (DOVA-SYNDROME) ピアノとストリングスのほのぼの曲 / 今川彰人オーケストラ (DOVA-SYNDROME) ノスタルジア / こばっと (DOVA-SYNDROME) https://dova-s.jp #RuralJapan #JapaneseFood #JapaneseVlog #CountrysideLife #Yamamomo #RedBayberry #JapaneseHomeCooking
